JETware Hands-free Extension FAQ

Q: I purchase the JETware Hands-free Extension for my phone, but I had to replace my phone.  Can I get an activation code for my replacement phone, or do I need to buy another license?

A: You can update the phone ID registered to you by logging on to our license management page using the e-mail address you used to purchase the software and your old phone ID.  Enter your new phone ID and press the [Update] button to get the activation code for your new phone.

Q: I installed the JETware Hands-free Extension on my phone, but my BMW or Audi system still keeps disconnecting from my phone.  Doesn't your new version fix this?

A: Some PocketPC-based Windows Mobile phones, such as the Treo 750 and Cingular 8525, have a problem in their power management drivers that cause them to have problems staying connected to certain hands-free devices, including BMW iDrive and Audi UHV systems.  We did the best we could to work around those problems, but since the problem is in the built-in drivers we were not able to eliminate the problem in all cases.

However, ROM updates are available for some of these phones that fixes the power management problems, allowing the phones to stay connected to hands-free devices more reliably.  Check with your phone manufacturer or carrier to see if an update is available for your phone.

Q: Why do I get the message: “Your phone's security settings prevent this version of the JETware Handsfree Extension from loading”?

A: Many phones do not allow applications that have not been signed with a trusted code signing certificate to call privileged access APIs. The JETware Hands-free Extension is code signed with the VeriSign Mobile2Market certificate. Phones that include the VeriSign certificate in their trusted root certificates for privileged access will load the Extension. Your phone has been configured by your operator without the VeriSign certificate.

If your Windows Mobile phone is provided by Orange, you may need to install the version of the JETware Hands-free Extension signed for use on Orange phones.

Q: Does the JETware Hands-free Extension support my phone/my hands-free device?

A: You can download the JETware Hands-free Extension 30 day free trial at our website to see if it meets your phone/personal requirements. See the compatibility chart for a list of phones and hands-free devices that are known to work with our software.

Q: Why do I get three entries for each of my contacts? My Parrot device supports having separate mobile, home, and work numbers for a single contact.

A: The Parrot hands-free devices support different methods of synchronizing contacts from Bluetooth phones. Contacts can be manually sent from the phone to the hands-free device using the Object Exchange (ObEx) protocol, they can be read automatically by the hands free device over the Hands-free profile (HFP) connection each time the device connects to the phone, or if the phone supports the Bluetooth Synchronization profile (Sync), it will automatically synchronize the Parrot phonebook with the phone's phonebook when the device connects. The JETware Hands-free Extension provides phonebook synchronization over HFP. Windows Mobile phones support manual ObEx contact transfers from the phonebook using the Beam Contact menu option. Currently there is no Sync support available in Windows Mobile devices.  JETware is looking into adding Sync support in a future product.

Parrot devices treat contacts read over the HFP connection differently from contacts received over ObEx (Sync is a derivative of ObEx). Contacts received over ObEx are listed as a single contact, with separate Home, Work, and Mobile numbers for that contact. Contacts synchronized over the HFP connection are listed individually. These entries are updated each time you connect the phone to the device, so they will always have the current contact information from your phone. ObEx entries pushed to the device are not updated automatically.

One way to use the HFP and ObEx methods to give you the best experience available without Sync support is to manually sync those contacts that are less likely to be updated often using the Beam option in the phonebook, and then add a Beamed category to each contact you have beamed to the device. In the Hands-free Config application go to the Phonebook options page and uncheck the checkbox by the Beamed category to prevent contacts that have the Beamed category from being synchronized each time the phone connects to your device. (Note, however, that if these contacts have other categories, and those other categories are checked, the contacts will be synchronized because they match the other category.) Using this approach your contacts that have been beamed will appear as a single entry with multiple phone numbers, and the contacts that have not been marked as Beamed will be synchronized each time the phone connects to the device, so you will always have the must current non-Beamed contact information on your device.

Q: My Parrot 3200 LS is not synchronizing my phonebook when I have the JETware hands-free Extension installed. What is going wrong?

A: Older firmware for the Parrot 3200 LS has a bug that causes it to act as though every phonebook has the same number of entries as the first phonebook it reads, which is the SIM phonebook. If you limit the SIM phonebook to only sync a small number of entries then the 3200 LS will act as though all phonebooks are limited to that number.  Parrot has fixed this problem in their firmware version 2.03b and later. If you are experiencing this problem, please update your firmware with the latest firmware available from Parrot.

Q: Why can’t I get the “Voice dialing” option to work on my Treo 700 or 750? I installed Voice Command but it still uses the Treo microphone and speaker for Voice Command.

A: The Bluetooth hardware in the Treo 700w is wired directly into the cellular radio hardware such that audio from the Bluetooth hands-free device microphone goes directly to the cellular radio, and only the cellular radio can provide audio to the Bluetooth hands-free device speaker. This does not allow the Bluetooth audio connection to be established prior to a phone call to take audio input from the Bluetooth microphone for a voice-dial application on the phone to interpret.
We have, however, had customers report that the microphone sensitivity on the Treo allows the Treo to be placed on the dashboard, for example, and with the addition of voice software such as Microsoft Voice Command, perform voice dialing initiated by pressing the voice-dial button on the Bluetooth hands-free device (but with the voice input going from the Treo microphone to Voice Command, and Voice Command responses come through the Treo speaker.

Q: Why can’t I get the “Use phone ringtones” option to work on my Treo?

A: The Bluetooth hardware in the Treo 700w is wired directly into the cellular radio hardware such that only the cellular radio can provide audio to the Bluetooth hands-free device speaker. Because of this limitation, custom ringtones can not be sent to the Bluetooth hands-free device.

Q:
Only part of my phonebook is transferring now, but it was working before.  Why does it stop at 25 entries now?

A: You must register your copy of the Extension in order to use its full functionality after the 30-day evaluation period.  After the evaluation period the Extension will only synchronize 25 phone numbers from Outlook, 10 from SIM memory, and 2 from each of the recent calls phonebooks.  After expiration of the evaluation period some of the features of the Extension are unavailable until you have registered.

Q: I'm having some problems with my hands-free system with the Extension installed. Is there some way I can provide JETware with diagnostic information to help track down the problem?

A: The Extension has some diagnostic logging of requests and responses that can be enabled. To enable logging open the Hands-free Config application, select Menu->Messaging, then Cancel to get back to the main page. At the main page either (a) use the on-screen keyboard of your Pocket PC to type the letter ‘d’, or (b) press your SmartPhone's action button, which should cause a message box to display asking if diagnostic logging should be enabled. Select Yes.

With logging enabled the Extension will log all requests from the HF device and responses from the Extension in \Program Files\JETware\BTAGATLog.log. Please connect to your hands-free device and run through the steps to reproduce the problem you are having, then send the log file to support@jetwaremobile.com for analysis.

After you have sent the log please repeat the process above to turn logging off.
